“Your 2006 Online Forecast”

The Advertising and Marketing industries enthuse about online media, which has been gaining momentum for the last few years. Online ad spending is projected to total $14billion in 2006, based on the Myers analysis. This dynamic surge in spending growth is driving the online marketplace, which is expanding its share of total budgets from 4.3% in 2004 to a projected 6.4% in 2006. As we gain more knowledge and become more savvy on the web with our use of slick interface design and usability, we can only assume that it is going to grow substantially for years to come, even surpass broadcast networks by 2007.

As far as design on the web for 2006, we are progressing too rapidly for our users. User interaction applications will attempt to be too slick and fail abysmally. Instead, the trend for simple and elegant solutions will continue. As resolutions increase in size, big fonts might dominate. However, websites will tend to stay away from the old “Fisher Price” look with the large buttons and bright colors. This belittles users and lowers the site’s value. Overall, a happy medium in between slick and not-so-slick will be met to produce some high-quality solutions. Subtle designs will dominate to avoid visual clutter. Large text will be replaced with negative space to create a clean visual aesthetic that is pleasing to the user’s eye.

Remember- feelings aren't facts
This week, I've been reminded of the saying, "feelings aren't facts"- which, as I use it, means "your feelings are important, but they aren't necessarily true".
